We would like to share with you how amazingly ALLUMINOUS can be experienced in photos:
The iconic tree-line that leads from Hortus to Utopia-island was transformed by ALLUMINOUS in a specially designed light intervention!
Our signature A-lights were presented as a long light art-tunnel along the start of the ALLUMINOUS route, inviting visitors towards the light artworks in Lumièrepark.
Young and slightly less young ALLUMINOUS visitors ecxplore the playful light art installation I Am (Not) Here, created by artists Pieternel Bollmann & Vasileios Apostolatos (on behald of youth theatre company BonteHond), next to the Atlantis city-beach.
Light artwork Artificial Humans by Belgian design collective Atelier Haute Cuisine was the starting point for the ALLUMINOUS walking route for most visitors, situated on the city-beach at Esplanade. As we placed the artworks rising up from the sand, a lot of children decided to place sand from the beach in the hands of the sculptures: an unexpected ritual and game that the youngest ALLUMINOUS visitors came up with themselves!
A visit to ALLUMINOUS Light Art Festival inspired many visitors to dress to impress: with light-accessories! And not just the people... Many dogs that walked the route with their owners were wearing colored leaches and blinking lights as well!
Busy times at one of the three locations along the light art route where people could enjoy drinks and snacks as well as music performances, programmed by Poppodium de Meester. Utopia island's forest-theatre looked marvelous and was the hot spot for up and coming singer-songwriters and bands from the city every night of the festival.
On the three food/drinks/music squares people enthusiastically relaxed with some culinary support from our many food trucks.
The artwork ABAAMD (As Below, As Above My Dreams) from artist Clinton Kabena became a quick audience favorite at the Oeverpromenade at the Stedenwijk side of the Weerwater lake. ALLLUMINOUS commissioned the artist, who was born in the Republic of Congo, but grew up partly in Almere, to make this light artwork. And Clinton specifically chose Stedenwijk as location because of his memories from his childhood in this area of the city.
The light art ALLUMINOUS presents is always photogenic, but also a great backdrop for families to photograph themselves in front of artworks to remember their visit to the festival! In this case in front of the artwork Weerlicht by artists Noortje van den Eijnde & Jos Agasi (on behalf of theatre company Vis à Vis), who created this artwork as a commission for ALLUMINOUS 2024.
The Kunstlinie building was itself almost an artwork during ALLUMINOUS 2024, as the exhibition halls for the solo-exhibition by Folkert de Jong were lit in many colors beuatifully, creating a magical atmosphere on the Esplanade, right on the Weerwater water. The exhibition, titled The Hero, the Crook and the Truth, was free to visit for all visitors of ALLUMINOUS 2024, every night during the festival.
ALLUMINOUS visitors wait in anticipation of the full blast of light and sound from the artwork RELAY: STONEHENGE, a commissioned for ALLUMINOUS 2024 collaboration by theatre/art collective Touki Delphine & Enric Monfort (on behalf of Black Pencil Ensemble). On Friday November 3rd, Black Pencil Ensemble performed live on location, to enrich the artworks' impact even more.
ALLUMINOUS visitors in deep concentration solving the daily sent out from Utopia Island's lighthouse Morse-code, a new educational project from the festival where we asked the visitors daily-new questions about, light, our universe, Almere, and the history of Flevoland, with a code to decipher to win a prize.
