The lights of Almere's skyline reflect in the water and are distorted by the wind. Weerlicht is a theatrical installation of these light lines, which reflect human presence. The light streaks are influenced by the weather and by ourselves. Rain turns them into digital noise, while wind and also moving car lights disrupt the reflections. The installation explores the boundary between analogue and digital and poses questions about our influence on the natural landscape. Although the light trails can be seen as light pollution, they also reveal unexpected beauty.

MEET THE ARTISTS:
Artist Noortje van den Eijnde (also known by her stage name Noralie) worked for several years as a VJ for festivals such as Lowlands, Le Guess Who but also for the Concertgebouw and Tivoli. She then expanded her practice with projects as diverse as video mapping, scenography for companies such as Silbersee, Orkater, Wunderbaum and Likeminds and worked on video installations and VR ballet ‘Narcissus & Echo' that was shown in Paradiso and Felix Meritis. Her recent collaboration with Studio Moniker for Nineties Productions, the digital artwork ‘To Be Continued’, was nominated for a Golden Calf award.

Jos Agasi is a visual artist and scenographer. He creates works that are mainly based on his own experiences and observations. Intuitively, he sets these images in motion and adds a time component. He investigates how light changes materials and how materials influence the light display. Agasi's artworks are spatial interventions that become (audio)visual experiences.

Weerlicht was commissioned by ALLUMINOUS light art festival, in collaboration with Vis à Vis.

Sandra van Beers, business director of ALLUMINOUS Light Art Festival: While working on ALLUMINOUS 2024, we are always looking ahead, but I would like to reflect with the team, the artists, and the audience of our festival on one person who we will miss this year and in the years to come: Marianne Seine. We started this adventure together with Marianne from Vis à Vis and together we dreamed of a magical show to open the festival and to light all the light artworks and lights in one magical moment. I really hope that in the future, perhaps when Almere celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, we can realize her dream as a tribute! Together with Marianne, we started the assignment for Jos Agasi and Noortje van den Eijnde. The end result 'Weerlicht' is a beautiful work of art that does justice to her artistic spirit, which will live on for a long time in Almere with everyone who knew her and worked with her on fantastic theater productions.
