On the dark beach of Stedenwijk, seven panels arranged in a circle light up. RELAY: STONEHENGE is arranged as a circular composition, inspired by the enigmatic Stone Age monument, it is an invitation to contemplation. Enric Monfort’s composition diffused various sounds and lights of relay engines from 1848 mounted on corrugated steel panels of Touki Delphine’s installation RELAY, creating an immersive spatial audio experience. The artwork shows a poetic view of the cycle of life; a gathering point to collectively celebrate the transition to winter through the magical beauty of light and sound.
MEET THE ARTISTS:
Collective Touki Delphine (consisting of Bo Koek, John van Oostrum, Rik Elstgeest and Chris Doyle) works as a mix of musicianship, performance art and visual art on technological interventions and installations. Around themes such as technology and nature they develop projects that can be experienced between theatre and visual art, starting from reinterpreting discarded car parts that they recycle, rebuild and give a new life to. Their work has been shown at MU Hybrid Art House, Caprera Light Festival, MASS MoCa, and Amsterdamse Bostheater.
Enric Monfort is a composer and percussionist who has worked internationally on music for theatre, dance and film. In doing so, he experiments freely with spatial sound such as dramaturgy, new technology and robotics, based on poetry. His stage creations have been presented internationally at Matadero Madrid, Festival Temporada Alta, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Amare Den Haag, Flamenco Biennale Nederland, MACBA Barcelona, Teatre Lliure Barcelona, Teatros del Canal Madrid. For his creation La Reine del Metal he won the Spanish Max Prize 2023 with Vanesa Aibar.
QUOTE FROM THE ARTISTS:
Enric Monfort - composer-dramaturgist (on behalf of Black Pencil Ensemble): During the creative process I realize how much the circular space and movement shape the entire piece. In place of one uniform rhythm you find a dance of multiple pulses, floating and coexisting in harmony. I believe that this strong sense of timelessness in our piece is impossible.
